Lady Emerald Knights Win Their Own Tournament For Seventh Year in a Row

Freshman catcher Sara Whyatt had a good Saturday for
the lady Emerald Knights. In two games of the Sports
Boosters tournament, Whyatt went five for eight
combined, drove in seven runs and slammed a pair of
home runs to help lift Hamilton to two victories.
Whyatt went three for four, and had a home run and
four RBI on Hamilton's 19-5, five-inning win over
Brookfield in the first game. She went two for four with
three RBI and another home run in the Lady Emerald
Knights' 14-8 win against Madison.
"She has great bat speed and great mechanics, said Coach
Bill Dowsland of his young catcher. "She generates a lot
of power and the ball just pops off the bat."
The other half of Hamilton's battery continued her
winning ways. Samantha Martin had seven strikes and no
walks in Saturday's two games.
In the opener against Brookfield, Martin also was two for
three with two RBI. Kylie Martin was also two for three
with a triple and an RBI. Liz Unger went three for four
with a triple and two RBI, and Nicole Beers went three
for four and drove in three runs.
In the win over Madison, Beers went three for five with
three RBI. Jenna Whyatt and Martin each had an RBI.
Mallory Carhart rounded out Hamilton's hitting with a
two for four performance, including a double and four
RBI.
Winning the tournament capped off a long week for the
Lady Knights. They played six games in seven days,
including Saturday's pair.
It was a long haul, but Dowsland said his squad's mental
stamina.
"I was really happy withe the way they stayed focused,"
said Dowsland.
Hamilton has three games this week and only four left in
the regular season. The remainder of the
pre-post-season includes games:
+ Monday at home against Oriskany;
+ Wednesday at Richfield Springs
+ Friday at home vs. Otselic Valley.
The regular season wraps on Monday, May 19 with a
game at Remsen.
Dowsland said the sectional tournament seating meeting
is May 22.
