Three School Board
Candidates Meet Public
The three women running for two open seats
on the HCS Board of Education introduced
themselves to and answered some questions
posed by the 30 or so people at Wednesday's
Meet The Candidates event.
Running in the May 20 election are Gail Davis,
Cynthia Mannino and Ingrid Hale, whose term
on the board is ending. The other opening is
the spot being vacated by current board
President Carolyn Gowan, who served six
years on the board.
Also on the ballot May 20 is the school district
budget and a proposal to purchase two buses.
Wednesday night, each candidate said they
have a vest interest in how the district
operates because they all have children in
school. And, each explained their records of
community service and previous involvement
in education.
Mannino, Hale and Davis all said they were
pleased with the direction of the school
district and wanted be part of helping that
continue.
Questions from the audience ranged from the
role of agricultural education in the school to
what changes need to be made to prepare
HCS graduates for a changing economy and
world.
Also discussed was the recent computer
security issue that came to light at HCS.
Numerous students were circumventing the
computer security process to access
unapproved websites.
Each candidate said she approved of how it
was handled by the school administration.
The event was kicked off by Superintendent
Diana Bowers and moderated by outgoing
president Gowan.
