Lacrosse Opens with Win

The No. 19 Colgate men's lacrosse team opened the 2012 season with a 10-8 win over Bryant Saturday afternoon at Andy Kerr Stadium. This was Mike Murphy's first game and win as a Division I men's lacrosse head coach. Colgate hosts Vermont on Saturday at noon.

Colgate men's lacrosse head coach Mike Murphy has announced the addition of Matt Abbott to the coaching staff as a volunteer assistant coach. Matt, who played four years at Syracuse University, currently plays Major League Lacrosse with the Chesapeake Bayhawks. His brother Mike is also on the Colgate staff.

The Colgate men's lacrosse team landed the No. 18 and 20 spots in the Inside Lacrosse 2012 Face-Off Yearbook Rankings.The Raiders clinched the No. 18 spot in the Division I Top 20 Rankings and the No. 20 ranking in the Coaches' Division I Top 20 Rankings. Colgate ended last year with an 11-5 overall record.

The Colgate football team holds its first pre-season practice for 2:30 p.m. at Andy Kerr Stadium Monday. The raiders will hold a scrimmage Aug. 20 and open its season on Sept. 3 with a home game against Albany at 6 p.m.

Colgate men's lacrosse sophomore Peter Baum was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the team's win over Army last weekend. Baum had four goals and two assists. He is ranked second in the country in goals per game (2.90).
