Knights Steamroll Morrisville-Eaton 11-0

Talk about an impressive break from the gate ...

The HCS boys soccer team got the 2010 season rolling in impressive and/or oppressive style tonight, beating Morrisville-Eaton 11-0.

HCS Coach Brian Latella said he was pleased with his team's crisppassing and unselfish play.

The Emerald Knights scored early and often. They built up a 5-0 lead at the half and more than doubled that score in the second stanza. Sam Owens posted a hat trick with two goals in the first half and one in the second.

The first half goals inlcude:

  • 35:31 Sam Owens from Dan Kraynak (in photo);
  • 29:32 Owens from Kraynak;
  • 25:29 Drew Thompson from Sam Riley;
  • 13:17 Phil Douchinsky unassisted;
  • 6:57 Joe Taranto on a penalty kick.

The seond half scoring went like this:

  • 36:40 Owens from Lujcas Rhyde;
  • 33:30 Kraynak from Same Hale;
  • 32:46 Hale from Ownes;
  • 27:12 Askew unassisted;
  • 15:14 Josh Hodge from Riley;
  • 5:45 Riley from Askew.

The monster win gives the Knights some early season momentum as they are hosts to the boys half of the Optimists Tournament. They open at 5 p.m. Thursday and then play again on Saturday either DeRuyter or Cincinattus (these two teams play at 7 p.m. tomorrow) at a time to be determined. HCS plays at 2:30 p.m. Saturday if they lose and 7 p.m. if they win.

The girls team opens tournament play Tursday at 7 p.m.
