Hamilton Area Farms Part of 'Open Farms Day' Saturday

Life on the farm is not a thing of the past, especially in the Greater Hamilton Metroplex.

You can see this for yourself Saturday, when local farms roll out their welcome mats for the public. They are participating in Open Farm Day, a promotional effort by Madison County Agriculture to help non-farmers get a better idea about where their food is grown.

Visitors will be able to tour a total of 37 farms in the county between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday. Folks can obtain a "passport" and collect stamps from the farms to qualify for prizes.

Hamilton area farms on Saturday's tour include:

Alambria Springs Farm on Musician Road in Earlville;

Brouillette Poultry Co. on (fittingly) Bird Road in Madison;

Common Thread Community Farm on Lake Moraine Road in Madison;

Drover Hill Farm on Earlville Road in Earlville;

Endless Trails Farm on Larkin Road in Hubbardsville;

Highland Farms of Hamilton on Payne Street in Hamilton;

Maple Avenue Farms on Borden Road in Earlville

Maple Hill Farm & Orchard on River Road in Hamilton

Red Gate Farm on Rte. 12B in Hamilton

and Shale Rock Stock Farm on Gorton Road in Hamilton
