Blackford to Coach Softball at Morrisville College

Tom Blackford, recently inducted into the HCS Hall of Honor for his successful boys basketball and softball coaching, has been named head coach of the Morrisville State College softball team.

Morrisville State College Athletic Director, Greg Carroll, announced the addition of Blackford (shown with his star player Nicki Swan Dolan), who also was inducted into the HCS Hall of Honor) as the head coach of the Mustang softball program for the 2010-11 season.

A news release from the college said:

Blackford brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Morrisville State, having coached softball for several seasons with two prestigious high school programs. He comes to Morrisville from Fayetteville-Manlius High School where he served as the softball coach for two seasons from 2003-2005, producing a 26-10 overall record, and coaching the team to a league championship title in 2003, a runner-up title the following season.

Prior to joining the staff at F-M, Blackford served as the head coach of the softball program at Hamilton High School where he tallied a 230-102 overall record in 15 seasons, posting seven league championship titles, a Section III championship title and an appearance at the regional championship.

In all, Blackford has tallied a 256-112 overall record in 17 seasons, placing several players on All-State teams.

Aside from coaching softball, Blackford is well known in Section III for coaching high school basketball for the past 28 years. For 20 years he was head of the Hamilton High School varsity program, recording an astounding 317 win, 138 loss overall record. While coaching the Knights, Blackford claimed seven league titles, five Section III titles, five regional championship titles and made five appearances at the NYSPHSAA Final Four Tournament. His team also posted two Class D State Championship wins (1994, 2000) and had 11 players earn All-State honors, two named All-State Players of the Year, including NBA Golden State Warrior center Adonal Foyle. Named the 1994 Class D New York State Coach of the Year, Blackford was honored by his peers three times as the Section III Coach of the Year (1994, 1997, 2000).

For the past eight seasons at the helm of the varsity program at F-M, Blackford has tallied an overall record of 100 wins, 78 losses, earning Class AA Coach of the Year honors in 2007.

A graduate of SUNY Cortland with a master's degree in physical education, Blackford is currently a physical education teacher at Fayetteville-Manlius High School.

Morrisville State College is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III and competes within the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC).
