Friends of Music
Villagers and visitors recently had the opportunity to
hear a long lit of mostly local musicians take to the
gazebo on the village green. Every musician donated
their time to remember one of their own, Craig
Getchonis, and to raise money to help young
musicians.

Activities Saturday
Music. Art. Books. Food. You name it and it was on
the village green Saturday. The second annual
Skyway Festival provided the music as the Baptist
Church held its lawn sale and the library sold used
books.

Age Lowered to 18
Colgate President Rebecca Chopp is one of the
college and university presidents who believe the
legal drinking age of 21 encourages binge drinking
on campus and seek an alternative. Chopp is a

Due to growing interest, a fund has been created for

Discussion Group for All Things Jane Austen
One of last year's most popular movies was The Jane
Austen Book Club, a story of six women who get
together to discuss the works of the author of such
works as Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice
and Emma. Now, such a club has formed locally.

HCS Creating Hall of Honor for Alumni
The best and the brightest to have earned diplomas
from Hamilton Central Schools will be honored next
year when the first inductees are added to the
school districts new hall of honor. Alumni with
success in the arts, athletics and academics will be
recognized at the opening next July 4, during the
HCS all-class reunion. The school board approved its
creation at its meeting this week.
Bookstore Seeks Fans of Paolini Books
If you are a fan of “The Inheritance Cycle” by
Christopher Paolini the Colgate Bookstore wants to
hear from you. The Bookstore is looking for fans of
the series to help plan the midnight release party of
Brisingr (the third book in this young adult fantasy
series whose latest installment will be available at 12:
01 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20).  If you are interested

US News Has Colgate & Smith Tied at 18th in
Annual Ranking
Colgate is ranked at 18th, along with Smith, on US
News & World Report's 2009 ranking of the best
liberal arts colleges in the country. Amherst tops the
list and Hamilton College in Clinton is one spot below
Colgate.

Village Starts Process Over Again to Buy Fire
Dept. Vehicle
The bankruptcy of a leading manufacturer of fire
trucks has led the village Board of Trustees to start
over the process to acquire a new heavy rescue
truck for the Hamilton Volunteer Fire Department.
The board voted at its meeting Tuesday to walk away
from its contract with American LaFrance and seek
bids on a new vehicle.

Lebanon to Consider Gas Pipeline Work
Town of Lebanon will hold a public hearing Monday,
Sept. 8, discuss a proposed project by Nornew Inc.
to place a 12-inch natural gas pipeline under town
roads. The hearing is slated for 8 p.m. in the Town
Office, 1210 Bradley Brook Road. The public is
invited to attend and comment.
Hamilton's Medical Community Grows;
Cardiologist Hired
Dr. Carina Alfaro-Franco, a board-certified
cardiologist is the latest addition to growing medical
community serving the greater Hamilton area. She
will work at the Hamilton Heart Center near
Community Memorial Hospital.

HCS Construction Continues; School to Open
Sept 4 as Planned
HCS Superintendent Diana Bowers has issued a
letter explaining the status of the school construction
project and dispelling rumors that classes will not
open on time. Bowers says work will continue when
classes start, but most of the project will be done
and the school ready for students.

Village Trustee Carl Albrecht is the new president of
the Partnership for Community Development. The
board also has three new members: Leslie Yacavone,

Colgate Football Program Plans Gala Reunion
Colgate football players from seasons past will gather
for a special reunion when the Raiders play
Dartmouth at home on Sept. 20. There will be special
halftime recognition for the team from 2003, which
went 12-0 in the regular season and 15-1 overall.
The highlight of the weekend will be a gala dinner at
the Hall of Presidents Saturday night.

Block Party Marred by Fights, Arrests
For most Hamiltonians, the annual July 3 block party
sponsored by the Colgate Inn is a great time to see
folks who may have left the area but come back for
the holiday. That occurred again this year, but so did
several fights that led to arrests. The event was a
topic of discussion at the village board meeting
earlier this week.

Collected
Madison County has told the Village of Hamilton and
others that they need to crack down on how people
are putting out their trash and items to be recycled.
And, if people don't comply with the county's
considerable guidelines, village workers must not
collect the trash.

Village Sets Guidelines for What Can be
Posted in Kiosk
Items that can now be posted in the "Around Town"
kiosk on Lebanon Street are essentially limited to
events and activities of non-profit groups and
educational organizations. The guidelines were
announced at Tuesday's village board meeting.

SOMAC Gets Funds from Village & Request
for Tighter Budget Review
At Tuesday night's village board meeting, trustees as
 well as members of the Hamilton Town Board had
tough questions for Sue Urben, the ambulance
service's treasurer. The village also informed Urben
that it would be sending the $8,000 allocated in this
year's budget as well as the $5,000 allocated but not
sent from the previous year's spending plan.

The team from the Colgate Inn setting up for
Thursday night's block party was soaked but
undaunted. Their efforts were rewarded as the
weather cleared (?) and the pre-Fourth celebration
went off as planned. The band The Hook got things

Hamilton Gets its Own Signal from WRVO-FM
Fans of National Public Radio and WRVO-FM of
Oswego have gotten a special gift, and it's not a tote
bag. WRVO is now available over the air at 92.3. The
signal is carried to the village slightly beyond on a
new translator the station has installed locally. Now,
local residents will get WRVO's complete schedule
every day. Currently, Colgate's WRCU carries WRVO
when students are not on the air.

Hamilton Central Schools’ Superintendent Diana Bowers successfully defended her
dissertation Monday and earned her PhD from Fordham University. Dr. Bowers

Most folks know Ellen Kraly as a Colgate
geography professor and director of the
Upstate Institute. Not as many know Ellen
Kraly the mountain climber. She has
mastered the Adirondacks and has climbed

her son Jimmy, will climb Mt. Rainier in the
Cascade Range of Washington State. But, it's
not just walk among the clouds for mother

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
(FERC) approved New York Regional
Interconnect’s request for reimbursement for
the cost of building the $2 billion, 200-mile-
long power line that would cut through the
Town of Hamilton. Investors could also get a
return of at least 2.75 percent on top of a rate
that is yet to be determined by FERC

Coming up are several public hearings on New
York Regional Interconnect, Inc.'s application
now before the state Public Service
Commissions. People can speak at the
hearings or submit written testimony. If you

Lady Emerald Knights in Championship of
Tournament Saturday
Tiffany Jones-Maxwell and Sarah Markowski each had
a goal for Hamilton Thursday night in the girls soccer
win over Morrisville-Eaton in the Hamilton Optimists'
Tournament. Lucy Campbell assisted Jones-Maxwell,
and Jones-Maxwell assisted on Markowski's goal.
Hamilton next faces Camden at 5 p.m. Saturday.
Emerald Knights Power Past Morrisville-Eaton
The HCS boys soccer team continued on its
impressive string of victories Wednesday, beating
Morrisville-Eaton 5-0. Tyler White scored three goals
and Nathan Steward gas two for Hamilton. The win

Sherburne-Earlville came from behind to tie
Hamilton's girls soccer team 1-1 Tuesday. Tiffany
Jones-Maxwell had Hamilton's lone goal on an assist
from Emily Truett. HCS goalie Kylie Martin turned away
12 S-E shots. Hamilton is now 9-0-2 overall and 5-0 in
league play.
Realigned Schedule Continues to Hurt; HCS
Loses at Onondaga
The Emerald Knights football team continued to
struggled with being part of a newly created division
this fall, losing to a new opponent, Onondaga Central,
48-21 Friday night. HCS quarterback Coley Graham
threw for one touchdown (20 yards to Nick Barker)
and ran one in from nine yards out for two of the
Knights' scores. Jordan Doroshenko ran in a
touchdown with about a minute left for Hamilton. HCS
is now 0-4.
Boys Soccer Adds Win Over
Oppenheim-Ephrata
With the Hamilton Optimists' Soccer tournament
looming thios weekend, the boys soccer varsity added
another mark on the win column, beating
Oppenheim-Ephrata 6-1 Monday. Matt Broedel had a
hat trick, Nathan Steward scored twice and Tyler
White tallied once.
Lady Emerald Knights Soccer Team Plays to
0-0 Deadlock
HCS' girls soccer team played Sauquoit to a scoreless
tie that took two overtimes to decide on Friday night.
Hamilton senior goal keeper Kylie Martin have nine
saves on the night. Hamilton's record is now 9-0-1
overall and 5-0 in league play.
HCS Boys Soccer Notches Another Win
Brian Latella's boys soccer team is enjoying the
friendly confines of HCS stadium field. They clipped
Frankfort-Schyler 4-0 Saturday. Dan Kraynak and
Nathan Steward each had two goals. Goalkeep Will
Keever had three saves for his eighth shutout and
seas on .40 goals against average.
Boys Soccer Team Posts Impressive Home
Shutout over Remsen
Six different players scored for the Hamilton boy's
soccer team as it manhandled Remsen 8-0 Thursday
at home. Nathan Steward and matt Broedel each
scored twice for Hamilton. Josh Sorosky, Tyler White,
Drew Thompson and Dan Kraynak each scored once.

Jacobs & Burney in top 10 for HCS Cross
Country
Running close to home in near-perfect weather, HCS's
cross country team defeated Ilion in a meet that
included three other schools. Hamilton's top finisher
was Nate Jacobs with a time of 21:50 for ninth place.
Teammate Jordan Burney was close behind at 21:51.

parts. Five different players scored -- some for the
first time this year -- to secure Hamilton's latest win

West Canada Valley Latest to Fall to HCS Girls
Soccer Team
The Lady Emerald Knights soccer team scored twice
in the first half and held on to beat West Canada
Valley 2-0 Wednesday. Emily Truett scored on an
assist from Kinzea Jones. Jones scored a solo goal
later in the half. Hamilton is now 9-0 overall and 6-0
in league play.
Friday Tough for Boys Soccer and Football
The Emerald Knights boys soccer team was edged
3-2 at Poland Friday, in its biggest game of the year.
HCS is now 6-1 overall.
More Meanwhile at home, the
HCS football team, playing under the lights of home
for the first time this year lost to Weedsport 35-7.
Girls Soccer Overpowers R. Springs
Kinzea Jones had three goals and an assist to lead a
lengthy scoring parade as the HCS girls soccer team
hammered Richfield Springs 9-0 Thursday.

Boys Soccer Renews Rivalry with Poland Friday
When asked in the preseason about goals for his
team this year, boys soccer Coach Brian Latella listed
"Beat Poland" as the top three. Friday is the first of
what most likely be three meetings between the two
teams this season. Latella answers the questions
about what's in store for the Emerald Knights Friday.

Field Hockey Team Edged Wednesday
HCS' field hockey team lost 1-0 to perennial rival New
York Mills on Wednesday. That puts their season
record at 4-3. The girls next play on Friday at
Herkimer. Faceoff is at 4:30 p.m.
